Janta Roadways, a Chennai-based logistics services provider in the car transportation segment, launched its luxury taxi service in the city on Tuesday. The service will cover Greater Chennai, which includes Sriperumbudur.
“We are investing around Rs 10 crore in this business. We currently have a fleet of 100 air-conditioned vehicles. However, the service will commence with 50 cars to start with,” Janta Roadways managing director Rajinder Singh told mediapersons.
Singh said the company was also planning to offer a hub-and-spoke service to automobile companies and had already acquired land at Alwar in Rajasthan for the purpose. “On the anvil are plans to start such hubs in Krishnagiri Pune and Nasik,” he said, adding that the company proposed to invest Rs 8 crore in this venture.
Janta Roadways currently offers its car carrier service to customers like Maruti, Hyundai, Ford, Fiat, Tata Motors, TAFE, Hindustan Machine Tools' tractor division and Indian Air Force. The company has recently tied up with Volvo India for transporting cars within the country. The company expects its revenues to touch Rs 40 crore this financial year, as against Rs 30 crore last year.
