Jeypore Sugar setting up Rs 200cr plant in Andhra

Chennai-based Jeypore Sugar Company Limited is setting up a Rs 200-crore sugarcane crushing unit at Pothavaram in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.

Company managing director Rajeswary Ramakrishnan said the plant with a capacity of 5,000 tonnes crushing per day (tcd) would go on stream early next year.

While plant and machinery erection is almost complete, the ancillary systems are being in put place. “It is hoped that the new mill will commence operations in the coming season depending on the cane availability,” she said at the company’s annual general meeting.

The company’s plant at Chagallu, also in Andhra, is targeting to crush 700,000 tonnes of cane in the current fiscal while the overall capacity of the plant is 8,500 tcd.

 

Meanwhile, its 16.8 Mw coal-based cogeneration plant at Pothavaram has started production. The power generated would be sold to the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission.

The company generated 25,143 Mw of power last year from its co-generation unit at Chagallu distillery, which achieved a production level of 40,000 litres a day and zero discharge level.
