JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd has commenced commercial production of its plant located at Motibhoyan near Ahmedabad.
The Rs 1,400 crore cement maker has invested Rs 100 crore in the plant, which has a production capacity of 0.6 million tonne.
“The newly launched unit will supplement the existing plant of the company at Sirohi in Rajasthan to take the total capacity of the company to 5 million tonne,” said Vinita Singhania, managing director of the company.
The Ahmedabad plant has already stabilised production and has reached 100 per cent capacity utilisation. Apart from this, the company already has three ready mix concrete (RMC) plants one each at Vadodara, Surat and Ahmedabad.
“Our new plant close to Ahmedabad is a step towards strengthening our footprint in Gujarat. We are now poised to play a major role in the infrastructure growth of emerging Gujarat,” said S Chouksey, whole-time director of the company.
Talking about the other expansion plans of the company, Singhania said the work on company’s 2.7 million tonne greenfield cement plant at Durg in Chhattisgarh has already commenced and the plant would be operational by 2011. The company plans to invest Rs 1,100 crore in the Chhattisgarh project.
“Keeping in touch with the global construction trends and providing value added products to the customers, we have introduced new a RMC product. The company currently has 11 fully operational RMC plants in western and northern regions of the country,” she added.
