JK Paper Mills, a leading paper manufacturing company located at Jaykaypur in Orissa’s Rayagada district, proposes to double its capacity to 2.5 lakh metric tonne per annum at an investment of Rs 1500-crore.
The expansion plan also envisages increasing the pulp making capacity of the unit to 2 lakh tonnes and replacing the existing captive power plant (CPP) with enhanced capacity.
“The 20 Mw CPP of the paper unit is very old and we want to replace it with another plant of 40 Mw capacity”, said the executive vice president (work) of the company, MC Goel.
The company board has already approved the expansion plan and the company directors are likely to visit Jaykaypur soon to give it a final shape.
JK Paper Mills, a JK group company, also has a Central Pulp Mill located at Sangadh in Gujarat.
The company produces various categories of paper including copier, excel bond, board, copier plus sparkle, photo vista and excel in the brand name of JK.

The company hopes to complete the expansion work in the next two and half years. Goel, however, did not spell out the details of sourcing funds for the project.
For strict adherence to ethical practice and successful implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities over the years, the company has received various national and international awards, said M.Ramesh Kumar, vice-president (P&A) of the company.
The awards included the National Groundwater Augmentation Award and Certificate of Appreciation for excellence in energy management by Bureau of Energy, Central government, in 2008. The certificate appreciated the efforts of the company in resources conservation in pulp and paper sector.
The paper mill celebrated the 125th birth anniversary of its founder Lala Kamlpat Singhania recently at its plant premises, where speakers lauded the company’s effort to operate in an ethical manner and work for the development of people in the vicinity of the plant under CSR initiatives.
