John Deere plans new Grain Harvester facility

To add 20 new dealerships by December 2010.

John Deere India, one of the leading tractor manufacturers and provider of advanced crop solutions and irrigation system, is planning to set up new unit for manufacturing of Grain Harvester (GH) machines in the next 18-24 months.

The company, which presently has 390 dealerships across the country, is also planning to add 20 new dealerships at select locations in the country by the end of the current calendar year 2010.

“We are planning to set up new facility for manufacturing of crop solution product - ‘Grain Harvester’ in the next 18-24 months. We have still not finalized its location, production capacity and investment. We may set up the plant near Pune with approximate capacity of around 3,000 machines a month,” Narinder Ghuman, senior general manager, sales and marketing for John Deere India, told Business Standard, but avoided divulge more details.

 

“As part of our dealers network expansion plans, we are also adding 20 new dealerships at select locations across the country by December 2010. We are also planning to introduce small tractors between 5 and 30 HP, shortly,” he added

The company, which presently has 7.5 per cent market share in the Indian tractor market, introduced two new tractor models in Nashik- 35-hp model ‘5036 C’ and 41-hp model ‘5041 C’. The company has already introduced these two new tractor models in some parts of the country and sold out 500 units so far.

The company's tractor manufacturing facility is spread over 112 acres at Sanaswadi, near Pune, with an annual capacity of 60,000 units of tractors. Presently, the company is manufacturing 11 models of tractors between 35 and 89 HP.
