Steel-maker Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) has been issued a summons by the district court here for alleged violation of environmental norms in connection with its 300-Mw captive power plant at Dongamahua.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Raigarh Sanjay Soni issued the summons to JSPL, its Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Vikrant Gujaral and Joint Managing Director Anand Goyal, seeking their presence in court for a hearing on October 29.
The summons was issued after the CJM Court registered a case against JSPL and its executives under various sections of the Environment Conservation Act, 1986, and Water Act, 1974.
The company did not respond to repeated queries on its future course of action in relation to the case.
Earlier, Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Circle Regional Forest Officer John Lakra had filed a case against the company under the Indian Penal Code.
The charges include initiation of work on a 300-Mw Phase-II captive power plant without environmental clearances.
As per the charges, the Environment Department had detected that structures including a turbine and chimney were erected in alleged violation of the Environment Impact Assessment Rules, 2006.
