JSW Bengal Steel, promoted by JSW Steel of the Sajjan Jindal Group, targets to place order for equipment of its proposed steel plant at West Bengal's West Midnapore district by September-October this year.

"We are waiting for the political situation here to settle down. We want to place orders for equipment in September-October this year," JSW Steel Chief Operating Officer P Sasindran today said.

Stating that the fencing has been completed, the ground has been levelled and construction of offices and guest house are done at the proposed Salboni plant, he said, "the people who have given land for the project and are now its shareholders, are very keen to see the steel plant come up. They are very supportive."

Coal for the steel plant, with a initial capacity of 3 million tonne and initial investment of Rs 10,000 crore, would be sourced from West Bengal, while iron ore would be brought from Orissa and Jharkhand, he said.

The steel plant and its captive power plant would come up simultaneously, he said.
