JSW Energy (JSWEL) has put the Rs 5,000 crore investment plan to set up an 1,000 MW power project in Rajasthan on the fast track. |
Its wholly-owned subsidiary Raj West Power had last week laid down the foundation stone of the lignite-based thermal power project in Barmer, Rajasthan. Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje was the chief guest. The project will have eight units having capacity of 125 MW each. Lignite has been chosen as the primary fuel as lignite mines in Jalipa and Kapurdi are near the project site. The entire fuel requirement will be 7 million tonne per annum. |
Barmer Lignite Mining Company will undertake the sourcing of lignite in Rajasthan under a joint venture between public sector Rajasthan State Minerals & Mining and Raj West Power. Raj West Power Chairman Sajjan Jindal said, "India is currently on a growth path. Power has become a vital component not only for business, but also for personal use. |
The supply of optimum cost power will help Rajasthan attain energy sufficiency at a time when it is vying with other states to emerge as a destination for Indian industry. "Also present on the occasion were Dasari Narayan Rao, Union minister of state for coal and mines, Laxmi Narayan Dave, minister of forest and environment and mines, Rajasthan and Gajendra Singh Khimsar, state minister of energy. |
