JSW Steel posts 23% growth in crude steel production in May

JSW Steel today reported a growth of 23 per cent in crude steel production for the month of May to 5.65 lakh tonnes against the corresponding month of 2009.

The company also reported a 12 per cent growth in monthly crude steel production sequentially, a company release said.

As per the available data, crude steel production of the company rose to 5.65 lakh tonnes in May, 2010, from 4.59 lakh tonnes in May, 2009.

Registering a growth of 27 per cent, the production of flat steel products -- mainly used by appliance and auto-makers -- rose to 3.88 lakh tonnes in May, 2010, compared to 3.06 lakh tonnes in May, 2009.

The production of long steel products rose to 1.09 lakh tonnes in May, 2010, compared to 0.65 lakh tonnes in May, 2009, a growth of about 68 per cent. Long steel products are primarily used in construction activities.
