In a major move for effective waste management in the pilgrim and tourist centre, Puri Municipality has joined hands with Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company Ltd (JUSCO) to make the city clean. At a function held at Puri on last Wednesday, Maheswar Mohanty, MLA, Puri flagged off a fully mechanised road sweeping machine, five dumper placer pickups, tractor with hydraulic trolley, and other related equipments which got deployed by JUSCO for the upkeep of the city. Aravind Agrawal, collector (Puri) and Shantilata Pradhan, vice chairman of Puri municipality were present on the occasion. At a time when the city is expecting to host record number of devotees during the upcoming Nabakalebara of Lord Jagannath, solid waste management was a critical concern area of sanitation in the temple city.
The initiative will ensure easy access of rubbish bins, regular mechanized sweeping and waste and sand removal from the roads, collection of recyclable waste and diverting the organic waste for composting.
