The monopolies and restrictive trade practices commission (MRTPC) has asked Karnataka chemists to lift a self-imposed embargo on sale of Pfizer drugs till further orders.

Admitting a plea by Pfizer, the commission slammed the Karnataka Chemists and Druggists Association (KDCA) and held that their embargo on Pfizer products amounted to "restrictive trade practices".

"The allegations made in the complaint (by Pfizer) prima facie shows the indulgence in restrictive trade practices. Therefore, notice of inquiry is issued against the respondents," MRTPC chairman Justice B K Rathi said in an official release.

The commission has granted four weeks to KCDA to file a reply of the notice of enquiry. KCDA had directed its members to boycott Pfizer products, following a dispute between the company and  chemists regarding commission on sale of drugs. (PTI)
