Anand-based Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd., popularly known as Amul Dairy, is all set for an ISO certification by March 2009. Kaira will be the first union to achieve a cent per cent ISO certified union.

The dairy plans to procure chilled milk from all its milk societies by 2010. Currently, out of the 1,107 milk co-operatives associated with the Kaira union, around 950 are ISO certified. Kaira is expected to achieve a fully ISO union status by March 31, 2009.

“We want all societies be ISO certified as early as possible. To ensure good quality in milk and milk-based products, there is no option but to adhere to ISO standards. We are putting a thrust on the cleanliness in the societies. We are also giving financial benefits to the societies as well as employees. We are planning to procure chilled milk from all our societies by 2010,” said Ramsingh Parmar, chairman, Amul Dairy to BS.

At present, the dairy gives a discount to societies for maintaining ISO standards. The dairy also gives a month salary as bonus to its all ISO certified society employees to motivate them.

The dairy, which has 20 lakh litre per day processing capacity, is expecting 20 lakh litre per day milk procurement in next two years and around 23-24 lakh litre per day by 2016, sources said.

It may be noted that, the Kaira union acquired a unit in Mumbai just two months ago, while it acquired a dairy plant in Pune in 2005. Besides, it has a processing facility in Kolkata also.
