Kamala Theatre to ramp up

To add 600 seats and new screens.

Kamala Theatre, founded in 1972, is planning to expand by adding 600 seats and new screens over the next two years. The theatre management would invest Rs 22 crore for its expansion plans.

The theatre, one of the oldest in Chennai, currently has a seating capacity of 1,000. The proposed investment will be done in phases and will be met through internal accruals, Naghu Chidambaram, partner, Kamala Theatre, said.

In Phase I, the company would invest Rs 9 crore to add two screens and focus on technology development, sound, light and other interiors. By Phase II, the theatre will have total four screens and 1,600 seats.

 

The theatre is also planning to go to other towns in Tamil Nadu including Coimbatore, Tiruchy, Madurai.

It will be done over the next two years, said Chidambaram.
