Karnataka State Small Industries Development Corporation (KSSIDC) is planning to create a land bank for the micro, small and medium enterprises at several places in the state within next three months. The land will be allotted exclusively to MSMEs, a top state government official said.
The proposed land banks are being developed at Dobbespet, Harohalli, Vasant Narasapura, Malur, Devanahalli near Bangalore and Belgaum, Desur and Dharwad in north Karnataka, said C Somashekara, managing director, KSSIDC.
The KSSIDC is also looking to develop theme-based industrial clusters after consulting the users and beneficiaries. It is in the process of developing a cashew cluster in Udupi, gems & jewellery cluster in Baikampady near Mangalore, engineering cluster in Dharwad and Shiggaon, an auto components cluster in Bidar and oil cluster in Challakere, he said.

“We have also requested the Central government to enhance the allocation of grant for cluster development from the present Rs 15 crore to Rs 20 crore,” he said while addressing MSMEs at an interactive session, here.
Somashekara said the corporation would soon allot industrial sheds at Nelamangala Industrial Estate near Bangalore to MSMEs, which are waiting for the past three years following the meeting of allotment committee on September 4.
B P Shashidhar, President, Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (Kassia) pointed out that barely 7-9% of the requirement of small entrepreneurs for industrial land was being met by around 150 industrial estates developed by the KSSIDC and over 90% of the MSMEs were functioning from private estates.
Karnataka has 650,000 units under micro, small and medium category. Of this, 350,000 units are registered.
