KBL Commissions largest pump for Ultra Mega Power Project

Pune based Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL), water management solutions company has announced successful commissioning of India’s largest concrete volute pumps for condenser cooling water application for the first unit of 4000 MW (5 units of 800 MW each) Thermal power project of coastal Gujarat Power Limited (a Tata group company) at Mundra, Gujarat.

This is India’s first ultra mega ( above 800 MW) thermal power Plant. The company claims that it is the world's largest concrete volute pump for cooling Water application at India’s first Ultra Mega Power Project

KBL is executing an order for 10 cooling water concrete volute pumps for this project. All 10 pumps will be installed at a single location, making it the world’s largest condenser cooling water pumping system for a thermal power plant handling 175000 litres per second.

 

This 4000 MW power plant project is expected to benefit close to 1.6 crore domestic consumers apart from supplying cost competitive power to industry and agriculture.

Speaking on the occasion, Ravindra Pande, vice president and sector head (power), KBL said, "This project at Mundra was a major technological challenge because such massive Concrete Volute Pumps were never before deployed in a power plant to handle sea water."
