Pune-headquartered Kirloskar Ebara Pumps (KEPL), a subsidiary of Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL) launched India’s first indigenously-developed next generation API (American Petroleum Institute) steam turbine ‘K-Tur’ for the domestic market.

With this KEPL will be among handful of Indian manufacturers in this segment which is mainly dominated by the foreign players for many years. The company has invested $1 million for this venture.

KEPL is a joint venture company between Kirloskar Brothers, India and Ebara Corporation, Japan. US based Elliott Group and Dresser Rand are the main turbine solutions provider companies who dominates the sector.

KEPL is among the first Indian company to develop the steam turbines in compliance with the API 611 specifications. These turbines are largely used in sectors like oil & gas, petrochemicals and fertilisers for the power generation.  The company manufactures complete turnkey steam turbine packages customised as per the requirement.

“There is a huge market potential for this business. No other Indian company is making these products. Most of the Indian companies in oil and gas and petrochemical sectors are dependent on foreign players for the products and technology,” said Aseem Srivastav, MD, KEPL.

Srivastav claims that the firms turbines can save almost 30 per cent of its cost on spares and services. The expenditure on servicing these products is huge.

KEPL is also eyeing the exports markets like Middle East. “We will be supplying pumps to global firms this year, including Saudi Aramco and Shell. KEPL has received more than 15 global customer approvals in last couple of years”, said Srivastav.

The company is planning to double its revenue in the next one year.

In last financial year (FY14), the company has registered a  total turnover of Rs 100 crore and plans to double it upto Rs 220 crore.

Currently, it has a order book of Rs 240 crore.
