Kinetic Engineering is targeting a 10 per cent market share in the motorcycles segment by this year end. At present, the company has less than five per cent market share in the bikes segment.

It aims at selling at least one lakh motor bikes this year and 1.5 lakh bikes next year. It is also targeting a total revenue of Rs 1100 crore for the current fiscal.

"We are projecting to sell 1.2 lakh scooters and 50,000 mopeds this year, "Punit Chaudari, the vice- president (sales) of Kinetic, said today.

The company, which forayed into the motorcycles market two years ago, launched its fourth variant - Velocity. The bike, which competes with other executive segment vehicles like Hero Honda's Splendour, TVS's Victor and Yamaha's Libero, is priced at Rs 38,300 (ex showroom).

Kinetic has launched Velocity in the north, west and eastern markets about two months ago and has so far sold 13,000 vehicles.

"We could sell one lakh vehicles of Boss -- our economy class vehicle -- since its launch in 2001. This year, we have so far sold 25,000 Bosses and expect to reach the 45,000 figure by this year end," Chaudari said.

"In the scooters segment, UP, MP, Gujarat, AP and Tamil Nadu are the largest selling markets. In south we have a 40 per cent market share in the scooters segment," he claimed.

Chaudari said that the auto-gear segment is gradually replacing the geared segment in scooters.
