The Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra) will set up a footwear park in Malappuram district of the state. Kinfra has already identified 120 acres of land at Vazhakkad for the purpose and is in the process of acquiring it. The project is expected to cost Rs 17.50 crore excluding the land cost, according to a Kinfra release.

The park would have facilities for manufacturing footwear and raw materials needed for the industry. It would also have allied industrial units based on cloth and leather.

The industrial park is expected to emerge as a big support for the 200 footwear manufacturing units in northern Kerala. It is expected to provide direct employment to 3,250 persons and indirect employment to 6,500, the release added.
