Pump manufacturer and infrastructure projects company Kirloskar Brothers (KBL) is planning to set up a greenfield plant to manufacture hydel power turbines.

The proposal for the plant - being planned as part of the Rs 150 crore capital expenditure plan the company has charted - is in keeping with the company's broader strategy of emerging as a engineering, procurement and construction(EPC) company in the utilities management sector.

Sanjay Kirloskar, chairman and managing director, KBL said a location would be identified for the plant soon as there is no space available at the company's existing location at Kirloskarwadi in western Maharashtra.

Kirloskar said the company will also gear up to manufacture large capacity pumps. "States are embarking on river-linking projects, and we are the only company that can supply concrete volute pumps such projects will require," he added.
