Kohli Edutech Pvt Ltd has planned to set up an education city in Sehore town near Bhopal. The Madhya Pradesh government has given its "clearance" on extending support to the company for a possible special economic zone for the purpose.

Sehore is 39 kilometres from Bhopal towards south-west and on Bhopal-Indore highway. The size of the investment is yet to be disclosed.

"The company has purchased 500 acres for this and an agreement for sale has been executed between landholders and the company for another 570 acres," a well-placed source in the state's department of industries said. The company officials could not be contacted.

Project Clearance and Implementation Board has decided to extend support to the company. If necessary, a non-cultivable land will be swapped with private land.

The Board has also decided to allow the company to acquire land from government lease/patta holders who are holding lease for more than 20 years, if the land area is non-cultivable or generates no income to the government leaseholder.

"A competent authority will take decisions on case-to-case basis in accordance with existing land allotment rules," the source said adding, "The company will also be provided necessary water and power."

However, a memorandum of understanding is yet to be signed between the company and the Madhya Pradesh Trade and Facilitation Corporation.

"We have learnt that the company has started working on necessary procedural things. If the project comes, it would be a new facility in education sector in the State," the source said further.

A few years back, tobacco major ITC Ltd had opened its first rural shopping mall Choupal Sagar in the vicinity. The town is also known for its Sharbati wheat growers.
