The Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL), the state-owned transmission utility, has seen its transmission losses go up by 5.7 per cent to 2,007.6 million units during 2009-10 compared to the loss of 1,898 million units lost in the previous year.
The total energy handled by the corporation also witnessed a rise of 8.2 per cent to 47,783.55 million units as against 44,122 million units handled in 2008-09.
“Transmission losses in KPTCL are one of the lowest in the country and are on par with the international norms. Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited has recorded 4.2 per cent transmission loss for 2009-10 which matches the best anywhere across the globe. Unlike distribution, transmission requires huge investments to expand the network and overcome the constraints to maintain and improve on the current levels of performance,” the KPTCL said in its annual report for 2009-10.
During the year, the corporation supplied 45,775.88 million units of energy to all the distribution companies in the state. Its revenues earned from all the distribution companies towards transmission charges amounted to Rs 925.55 crore, showing a growth of 15.83 per cent over the previous year. Its net profit for the year, however, dropped by 39.5 per cent to Rs 8.47 crore.
The outstanding amount from the distribution companies during the year amounted to Rs 257.70 crore.
