If winter comes, can spring be far behind. Shaw Wallace and Company (SWC) has settled all its litigation with the U B Group, and now Kishore Chhabria (KRC) is expected to settle his dispute with the Vijay Mallya-owned U B Group.

However, Kolkata based legal sources close to both KRC and UB group said that right now there was no proposal of settlement between UB group and KRC.

There are at least three litigations were pending in different courts in India between UB group and KRC. One of them before the Company Law Board, where Herbertsons Ltd filed a petition against KRC for alleged mismanagement in BDA Brewaries and Distileries Ltd.

Another case was pending in Bombay High Court relating to KRC and his ties with Herbertson.

A third one was pending in the Calcutta High Court where, KRC opposed the induction of Herbertson as a party in a suit filed by SWC regarding the ownership of BDA.

This was filed by SWC in the year 1992, challenging the authority of KRC in the management of BDA.

In this case, UB's Herbertson alleged that as the dispute between SWC and KRC had been sorted out, both tried to grab BDA affecting the interest of Herbertson in BDA.

Both KRC and BDA strongly opposed the petition of Herbertson for addition of party to the 1992 suit.

The court allowed the Herbertson's plea and directed them to file affidavit in the suit.

Time will say how long those litigations between UB group and KRC will continue in view of the fact that SWC head Vidya Chhabria's effort to settle the dispute with UB's Mallya has been complete.
