Steel tycoon Lakshmi Niwas Mittal, chairman & CEO of ArcelorMittal, has received the World Steel Association (WSA) Medal.

The medal was presented by Paolo Rocca, the vice-chairman of WSA and chairman of Techint Group, in Tokyo. The medal is awarded to retiring chairmen as they step down from being an officer of the executive committee. It is an honour in recognition of distinguished service to the steel industry and WSA.

After four years as an officer of the executive committee, Mittal is now stepping down, though he remains a member of the committee.

The medal was first awarded in 1992 and has been presented to 16 recipients to date. Sir Robert Scholey of British Steel was the first to receive it.
