L&T to set up five units in Coimbatore by 2015

Larsen & Toubro, the Rs 17,000 crore ($ 4 billion) group, has identified Coimbatore as the fifth important growth centre.
 
Addressing mediapersons, A M Naik, chairman, L&T, said that the company has chalked out a 10-year growth plan extending from 2005 to 2015 in which Coimbatore will have five units.
 
"We already have a switchgear facility in Coimbatore. We will be setting up a valve unit, a rubber unit, a precision component unit among others in the city," he added.
 
The other four growth centres are Chennai, Powai in Maharashtra and two locations in Gujarat.
 
Larsen & Toubro Demag Plastics Machinery Ltd has set up a new manufacturing facility of plastics machinery at Chembarambakkam in Chennai at an investment of Rs 25 crore.
 
The new facility will be equipped with advanced technology for design, manufacture and testing of plastics injection moulding machines.
 
The manufacturing capacity is likely to be ramped up to 1,000 machines in the near future from the present 600 machines.
 
L & T -Demag, an equal joint venture between L&T and Germany-based Demag Ergotech GmbH (part of Mannesmann Plastics Machinery group) plans to clock a turnover of Rs 125 crore during the current fiscal.
