L&T to set up switchgear plant in China

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has signed a memorandum of understanding for setting up a greenfield manufacturing project in China, and is also planning to acquire a Chinese valve manufacturing company.

The proposed switchgear plant in the Wuxi new district - a hi-tech industrial park in the Jiangru province of China - would manufacture high-end air circuit breakers (ACBs), R N Mukhija, L&T president and member of the board, said in a release today.

To be built on a 30,000 sq metre plot, the factory would be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for manufacturing and testing, the release said.
