Lady CEO pulls her weight in fitness business

Making a mark in the field of fitness in the region , Mohali based 'Oceanic', which is into running state-of-the-art health clubs and manufacturing of fitness equipment is on an expansion move.
 
The company is setting up another unit at Chanalo industrial focal point, adjoining Kurali, on an area spread over 4,500 square yards.
 
The unit will come up with an investment of Rs 40 lakh and will be operational by the year end.Speaking to Business Standard Jasbir Kaur, manging director, Oceanic, said with a surge in demand from the region, it was a necessity to have another unit.
 
A fitness freak, the entrepreneur ventured in the manufacturing sector after opening two gyms in Panchkula and Mohali.
 
"Two years ago, I opened a workshop, which slowly developed into a manufacturing unit. An order from the the Punjab Cricket Stadium at Mohali, where Indian and foreign cricketer do their work- outs during Test and one-day matches kickstarted the business," said Kaur.
 
The company has also got orders from as far as the Agra Golf Club, Pune , Bangalore, and the Patiala Railways, and is working on another project coming up in Phagwara.
 
With an expected annual turnover of Rs 1 crore this fiscal, the unit manufactures strength-training fitness equipment, along with high-tech commercial and semi commercial motorised treadmills used in gyms, clubs, institutions and homes . "We have different configurations available. We have DC motor drives and AC motor drives with choice of consoles and desired features," she said.
 
She further added that being a health-club owner and with a trained technical staff, the manufactured equipment were accurate, reliable and cosmetically safe.
 
Commenting on growth prospects in the industry she said, "Lack of service-stations for imported machines was proving to be advantageous for domestic manufacturers, and they were looking at an annual growth of 40 per cent this year."
 
With a clientele of more than 500 in her fitness centre, Kaur is planning further expansion and is looking to open another centre in Delhi,spread over 2000 sq feet with an investment of 15 lakh.
