The much-awaited Lake Mall in the city, a Rs 40 crore project and two years behind schedule, will be inaugurated by March 2009, and has signed on Fun Cinemas to open a 1200-seater, 5-screen multiplex at the premises.

The 200,000-sq-ft mall is a project to turn the dilapidated Lake Market of Kolkata into a swanky Lake Mall.

The mall is promoted by Venkatesh Foundation Pvt Ltd in a joint venture with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), and managed by The Space Group of Space Circle and Space Town fame.

According to Shrikant Mohta of Venkatesh, “We will inaugurate Lake Mall by March 2009. The ground floor of the mall will rehabilitate the 350-odd hawkers on Lake Market. Its a G+6 structure where other floors will accommodate some 100-odd domestic and international brands. We are in the process of signing on the brands.”

KMC, as joint-venture partner, has provided land and will continue to collect rent from the 350-odd hawkers.

The first three floors of the Lake Mall will host mega stores, super stores and hypermarkets. The fourth floor will house the food court, entertainment plazas and virtual reality game stations.

The fifth and sixth levels will be taken up by Fun Cinemas.

The mall would have parking facility for 265 cars in the basement and the vicinity.
