Chandigarh-based Lakshmi Energy and Foods today said it has received an export order of about Rs 300 crore for supply of Pusa 1121 variety of Basmati rice.

In a communique with Bombay Stock Exchange, Lakshmi Energy and Foods, formerly known as Lakshmi Overseas Industries, said it has recently got an export order for Pusa 1121 Basmati rice worth about Rs 300 crore.

Further order for the same variety are under negotiation, the company added.

It said Punjab farmers have started cultivating Pusa 1121 rice in a big way, after the government classified it as "Basmati" in October 2008.

Since there is no ban on export of basmati rice, the variety can be exported out of the country while non-Basmati rice varieties are prohibited from export.
