Ophthalmic and optics company Lawrence & Mayo (L&M) is foraying into educational space to set up a chain of optometry institutes in India under the brand, Premier College of Optometry.
“There is an acute shortage of optometrists in India due to lack of training institutes and awareness about this lucrative employment avenue in primary eye care,” said L&M marketing director Vivek Mendonsa while talking to Business Standard here.
L&M has already tied up with public sector banks for educational loans, he informed.
The company has 91 retail outlets across 32 cities in India vending known eyewear and optics brands viz. RayBan, Vogue, D&G, Tommy Hilfiger, Nikon, Bausch etc. It also has its private label. In UP, it has stores in Lucknow and Allahabad, while Kanpur and Varanasi are next in line.
