Having launched its fourth training centre in the country in Kolkata, leading imaging technology company Nikon India is now planning to set up a centre in Ahmedabad. Eyeing both professional and amateur customers, Nikon India is looking at offering day long courses in photography in Ahmedabad.

"We now have four training centres in the country including Gurgaon, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata. In near future, we are planning to set up such training centres in photography in other major cities like Ahmedabad," said Hiroshi Takashina, managing director, Nikon India Private Limited. The company conducts one-day long to three-day long photography training sessions and workshops for its customers.

Talking about growth in its compact and digital SLR (DSLR) cameras Takashina said that from 2.4 million compact cameras in fiscal 2010-11, the market is set to grow to 3.2 million units. "Similarly, in DSLR, from 100,000 units the market will grow to 170,000 units. For Nikon India, the DSLR segment of cameras is growing at a faster rate than the compact cameras in the country," Takashina added.

While it enjoys over 25 per cent market share in compact cameras, Nikon India enjoys a 55 per cent market share in digital SLR segment. The 100 per cent subsidiary of Nikon Corporation is also looking to double its turnover from Rs 450 crore in FY 2010-11 to Rs 900 crore in fiscal 2011-12.

According to Nikon India Gujarat is an important market contributing six per cent to the total western India market share of 31 per cent.
