Capt CP Krishnan Nair, a legend of the hotel industry and Founder Chairman of The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts passed away peacefully with his family beside him, at the age of 92, following a brief illness.
A press released issued by the hotel group said that the last rites shall be performed tomorrow, Sunday, 18 May, 2014 at 3 pm at Pawan Hans crematorium in Juhu, Mumbai. A freedom fighter in his youth, Capt Nair served as an officer in the Indian army.
Post his retirement, Capt Nair founded and built the luxury hotel chain under the Leela group. He was the recipient of many prestigious accolades for his invaluable contribution to the tourism industry and for setting benchmarks for excellence in the hospitality industry.
Capt Nair is also the recipient of the Padma Bhushan from the President of India. Capt Nair is survived by his wife Madam Leela, their sons - Chairman and Managing Director, Vivek Nair, and Co-Chairman and Managing Director, Dinesh Nair, their wives and children.
