Lenovo is bullish on the largely untapped PC market in Uttar Pradesh, especially rural pockets with a high percentage of literate youth.
Against the national average of 10 percent, the consumer PC penetration in UP is only 8.1 percent, much lower than the neighbouring states of Punjab (12.8 percent) and Haryana (13.2 percent).
On the world stage, India itself compares poorly in PC penetration against other developing nations viz. South Africa (18 percent), Turkey (49 percent) and Malaysia (64 percent).
To increase market share and PC penetration, Lenovo, which is now also focussing on the growing tablets and smartphones segment, today launched its 'Start up with Lenovo' initiative to increase PC usage in UP.
In first phase, Lenovo is rolling out the initiative in UP in addition to Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
The company has tied up with Bajaj Finance to offer interest free EMI scheme for owning Lenovo computers.
In first quarter of 2015-16, the UP consumer PC market was estimated at 80,000 units against the national market size of a million units.
