Personal computer (PC) maker Lenovo, steadily expanding its product portfolio, today announced the launch of its smartphones in Uttar Pradesh market.

"We have been selling Lenovo tablets at our exclusive stores and now we would be introducing smartphones, too," Lenovo India General Manager (sales, north) Amit Dhar told Business Standard here. The smartphones would be in range of Rs 6,000- Rs 35,000.

Initially, Lenovo cell phones would be available at its 122 exclusive stores in the state. The retail network would be gradually increased to 500 stores in the first phase, Dhar said.

The company would launch a smart phone in association with top chip maker Intel, he added.

"From customer feedback, we know longer battery life is one of the most important considerations for people and we have tried to cater to this aspect in our products," Dhar said.

The company has unveiled its new range of notebooks and PCs. Lenovo aims to consolidate its position in UP with 360 degree go-to-market strategy encompassing business, product, marketing, brand, retail, channel, service and support.

"With a market share of 16.1 per cent, we see great potential in UP as a growth market for PCs," he added.

According to Dhar, the monthly organised PC market (laptop and desktops) in UP was 35,000-40,000 and was growing over 5 per cent. Lenovo has a network of 1,200 exclusive outlets in India.
