Terming Infosys' success as a revolution, Finance Minister P Chidambaram today stressed the need to replicate the IT major's success in other sectors to make India a global destination.

"Infosys is creating wealth and assisting in the growth of the nation. It is time we build several Infosys in different industries and businesses. It can be in steel, automobile, refinery... Just like Indians are everywhere in the world, let us ensure that everyone comes to India. Let us make India a land of opportunities," Chidambaram said, addressing the silver jubilee celebrations of the IT giant at its sprawling Mysore campus.

The minister pointed out that India could leverage the strong growth of its working population. "Not even China is close to India in this aspect. We have the fastest growing working population and we will maintain the lead for the next 25 years. Let us give them an opportunity to excel and build a vibrant nation," he added.

He contended that the IT sector had the potential to emerge as the largest employer 10 years down the line.

"We have to build a knowledge society, one that thrives on opportunities and empowerment. Only then can we eradicate poverty," he noted.

Chidambaram congratulated the Infosys team for fetching laurels for the nation. "When I am at Infosys campus, it becomes difficult for me to believe that I am in India. I am sure we can achieve similar success in other sectors too," he stated.
