Dubai, one of the seven emirates, may be in the middle of a deep financial crisis, but that hasn’t stopped Al Futtaim Motors from turning a Lexus SUV into gold and putting it up for sale at the upcoming motor show.
Al Futtain Motors, the exclusive distributor for Lexus car in the UAE, today announced that it would apply 40,000 pieces of 24-carat gold leaves on the luxury SUV — Lexus LX570 — that would be up for sale at the Dubai International Motor Show between December 15 and December 20.
“This is the first time such an event has occurred live at a motor show, marking the first commercial 24 carat gold car in the GCC,” the firm said in a statement.
“The gold car will be put on sale once the transformation is complete,” the company said. Gold Emotion, a Paris-based company, is applying the gold leaf, which is protected by a varnish that protects the cover, allowing the car to be driven like any other vehicle.
