Liberty plans Rs 50 crore polyurethanes plant

Leading footwear manufacturer Liberty today said it planned to invest Rs 50 crore to set up a polyurethanes (PU) facility in Roorkee (Uttranchal), which is expected to go onstream by the end of this year.
 
"The 'liberty Polyurethanes', to be set up with an investment of Rs 50 crore will be spread over an area of 32,000 sq m. The unit will manufacture special PU, which is used for boot soles and application products required for Indian market," Liberty Shoes Director Anupam Bansal said.
 
He said the company would manufacture semi-formal range of shoes, which are in the mid and top end segment, from the plant.
 
"The initial capacity of the plant will be 1.5 million pairs per annum," it said, adding that production in the new unit was expected to start in December 2006. The foundation stone was laid by Uttaranchal Chief Minister N D Tiwari today.
 
The company said the new plant will have a workforce upto 1,200 personnel through direct employment and another 5,000 indirectly. This unit will have complete footwear manufacturing facility from cutting of upper raw material to supply of finished product with in-house infrastructure.
