The Lifeline Group of hospitals has established its third centre in Chennai in the form of a 225-bed multi-super specialty hospital. The hospital has been set up at an investment of close to Rs 40 crore.

At a press conference on Thursday, J S Rajkumar, chairman of Lifeline Group, said that the hospital would be scaled up to a 550-bed one in a year or two.

According to Rajkumar, the capital required for scaling up would be relatively limited because the medical equipment is already in place.

A few months ago, Rajkumar had said that the economics of the new hospital would rest on making treatment affordable for the "middle class."

The new hospital has started operations, but is not yet fully functional. It is to get fully functional in phases over the next month.

The hospital is located on the IT Expressway at Perungudi. It is spread over a 2-acre plot and has seven operating theatres.
