Ahmedabad based Lincoln Pharmaceuticals Ltd (LPL), has entered into an agreement with Phafag AG, Switzerland, for its Caroverine molecule for the treatment of Tinnitus, commonly known as "ringing in the ear". LPL thus becomes the first company in the country to introduce a cure for Tinnitus in the form of Tinnitin injections.
Tinnitus refers to a condition where the inner hair cells get damaged causing continuous depression, anxiety and insomnia in patients. Millions across the world suffer from Tinnitus. In India alone over 47 million people silently suffer from this disease, yet there has not been any treatment available, LPL claimed in a statement. Tinnitus is estimated to affect about 35 per cent to 45 per cent of adults over 17 years of age at some point of time in their lives as a temporary or permanent disturbance. LPL will be the sole manufacturer and distributor of Tinnitin injections in India.
Speaking on this association Mahendra G Patel, managing director, LPL said, “With the amount of people suffering from Tinnitus, it was very sad that no effort was being made to alleviate the discomfort and pain caused to the victims.” The Rs 130 crore company developed Caroverine injection under research and development collaboration with Phafag AG to introduce TINNITIN. It has recently also received permission from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for registration of the drug in India.
