The management of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has claimed that there was little impact of the strike call given by the AITUC-affiliated union on the first day today.
The company said a total of 55,230 tonne coal was produced in the first shift as against the target of 53,360 tonnes.
“Normal levels of operations in 14 open cast and 36 underground mines were reported during the first shift,” it said. The SCCL management has appealed to the striking union to resume talks on its demands.
The recognised trade union, affiliated to AITUC, launched the strike from Monday after terming that the talks with the management failed to make any headway. Among its demands, the union is asking for distribution of 25 per cent of the profits among the 70,000-strong workforce.
