The Chennai Container Terminal (CCT), also known as DP World Chennai, has won the Port Authority / Terminal Operator Award at the 2010 Lloyd’s List - Middle and Subcontinent Awards announced on Wednesday at the Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai.

The award was based on the terminal’s TEU throughput performance, cost efficiency, turnaround time and value-added services delivered.

The terminal has increased its throughput from 0.3 million TEUs in 2001 when DP World (then P&O Ports) took over operations, to more than 1 million TEUs year-on-year, over the last 3 years. DP World’s CCT also won the prestigious National Safety Award recently and is also first container terminal in India to have inaugurated an e-terminal.

Ennarasu Karunesan, CEO & director of DP World Chennai, said, “Our efforts in process re-engineering have brought the dwell time of containers at the terminal from 7-8 days in 2001 to less than 24 hours today.”
