Gartner Inc, the leading IT and telecom research firm, has forecast that the Indian telecommunications sector would witness one of the fastest growth rates globally with a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 19 per cent up to 2006.

In contrast, the growth in telecom services worldwide is projected at about 5 per cent in 2003 and with an uncertain future.

According to Gartner, the cellular market, which has been the front-runner in the growth of the local telecom industry, will maintain a CAGR of 46 per cent, making it the highest growth market in Asia-Pacific. This growth rate is expected to be more than that of China
