Lockout at Eveready Cossipore unit

Brij Mohan Khaitan-controlled Eveready Industries India has declared a lockout at its oldest factory, Cossipore factory in West Bengal on account of labour problems.

Deepak Khaitan, executive vice chairman and managing director, Eveready Industries said that the factory would re-open only on the management’s terms. The Cossipore factory has a capacity of 10-11 million batteries.

Khaitan said, “We have surplus capacities at our other units.” The company has facilities at Nodia, Madur Chennai, Uttaranchal.

Khaitan said, the factory would be shut till the festive season. “We apprised the state government,” he said. Eveready has manufacturing bases in Chennai, Hyderabad, Noida, Dehra Dun, apart from Cossipore.
