Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) today inaugurated its full-scale automotive plant here from where it plans to roll out 50,000 three-wheelers every year starting early 2007.

"We are looking at a three-fold strategy here. The plant is primarily intended to give a fillip to our three-wheeler business. This plant and our tractor operations in Rudrapur will add momentum to the industrial growth of the state," Anand Mahindra, vice-chairman and managing director of M&M, said after inaugurating the plant today.

Mahindra said the company was looking for a suitable location to set up a plant to manufacture heavy vehicles after its recent tie-up with US-based International Truck and Engine Corporation. "Uttaranchal is one of the three states we are in talks with for setting up the plant," he added.

The company also plans to utilise the plant to manufacture electric vehicles, which would be commercially launched by the name Champion-Bijlee in the near future, Pawan Goenka, president (automotive sector) of M&M said.
