Production resumed at Mahindra and Mahindra’s plant at Nashik after workers resorted to a one-day flash strike yesterday, demanding an upward revision in the wages of a section of workers. M&M’s Nashik plant produces popular passenger vehicles like Xylo, Scorpio, Bolero and Logan.

“The management is confident that the loss of production will be made good soon. The company does not expect any material impact on sales volume in the short term. Production in all shops of the plant is back to normal from today,” the company said in a release. M&M did not specify the monetary loss that the company suffered from the production glitch.

According to reports, workers had asked the management to double the wages for the plant’s 1,200-odd entry-level workers, and bring them on par with the 1,800 senior workers. They claimed the work done by both the classes was the same.

M&M had offered to increase ad hoc allowances of all entry-level workers at the plant. According to the agreement between the management and the union, the next wage revision for workers is due in February, 2013.
