The vehicle, which was designed and developed by the company's Chennai-based research team, has also been launched in South Africa.
In the next six months, the company will launch the vehicle in Australia, South and Central America, Western Europe and SAARC countries.
Powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine, the XUV500 has a six-speed transmission and is also available in a four-wheel drive variant.
