Mahindra & Mahindra, the leader in the utility vehicle (UV) segment, has called for reduction of 30 per cent excise duty on the Bolero which is manufactured in Uttarakhand. It produces Bolero vehicles from its Haridwar plant, which was set up in 2006.
On Tuesday, the company's president and chief executive (automotive) Pravin Shah met chief minister Harish Rawat at Bijapur guest house here. During the meeting, Shah told the CM that Bolero is attracting 30 per cent excise duty despite not being a luxury vehicle.
Shah said the CM should take up the matter of 30 per cent additional excise duty with the Centre.
