The state government is expected to endorse the demand that the Jayaprabha studio and the adjacent area be reserved for a film city project like that of Ramoji Film City at Hyderabad.

The demand is made by the Kolhapur municipal corporation (KMC) through a resolution passed unanimously at a recent meeting.

A case is pending before the Bombay High Court with regard to the studio. Notwithstanding the case, KMC members passed the resolution against any development by the developer engaged by the studio owner and playback singer Lata Mangeshkar. As KMC is one of defendants in the case, it has to submit its contention.

As per the existing procedure, the resolution of the corporation has to be endorsed by the urban development department. Only then, the acquisition of the studio from the owner, Mangeshkar, will gather momentum.

As the state is also one of the parties to the case along with KMC, the government's view and decision in the matter will have to be submitted to the court.
