Maa Mahamaya Industries Limited (MMIL), which runs a mini-integrated steel plant in Vizainagaram district, is planning to double its production capacity to 2.4 million tonne.

"At present, we have the capacity to produce 1.2 lakh tonne of TMT bars and rods, which we want to increase to 2.4 lakh tonne over the next two-three years at an investment of about Rs 250 crore," Ashok Kumar Agarwal, chairman and managing director, Maa Mahamaya Industries, said.

The company requires about 2.5 lakh tonne of iron ore a year. Post expansion, this would increase to about 5 lakh tonne.

"We are negotiating with NMDC for ore supply, and expect to start the expansion work once we get the ore linkage," he said.

Currently, MMIL procures ore from the Bellary sector and Orissa, which is a bit costlier than the NMDC ore.

The company markets its TMT bars under the brand 'Manegal' in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Orissa. Maa Mahamaya achieved a sales turnover of Rs 170 crore till December 2007. It expects Rs 254 crore in the current fiscal.
