Maggi noodles samples to undergo lab test: Gundurao

Karnataka may consider banning the product if its contents prove to be hazardous

BS Reporter Dharwad
Following reports that Maggi noodles contain chemicals that are harmful to health, the Karnataka government has decided to send the samples for testing before taking any further step such as banning the product.

Minister for food and civil supplies Dinesh Gundurao said in Dharwad that the health department would be asked to conduct tests on Maggi noodles and take further decisions based on the lab reports.

He said Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra governments had hinted that Maggi noodles would be banned as some of the chemical components added in the noodles had proved to be hazardous. "The food and civil supplies department will ask the health department to conduct laboratory test on maggi noodle samples within a week and based on the laboratory report next step would be decided," he stated.

He said, all the products sold in the market have to follow the guidelines mentioned in the Food Security Act and the goods which are found harmful for consumption would be banned.
