Maha govt okays Century's Worli mill closure

Century Textile announced closure of its Worli plant with effect from January 12, following Maharashtra government's permission.

The company had earlier sought permission from the labour commissioner, government of Maharashtra to close the mill in the heartland of Mumbai city as a consequence upon voluntary retirement opted by about 6,300 workers out of about 6,600 workers.

According to a release issued by the company to the BSE today, an application dated May 11, 2007 was made to the Labour Commissioner, government of Maharashtra under Section 25(O) of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 for permission to close the Textile Mill at Worli, Mumbai, Century Textiles & Industries.

The government of Maharashtra, Labour Commissioner granted its permission to close the operations of the said Textile Mill vide their letter dated January 11, 2008.

The company announced that  pursuant to the government's order the Textile Mill at Worli, Mumbai stands closed effective January 12, 2008.
